Annual Golf Day 2007

Fri 5th Oct 2007

Golf Day 2007 - On 5th October A&B Engineering welcomed 58 guests to The Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club for their first annual golf day.

Forty seven golfers teed off on a glorious autumn day at the 185 yard Par 3 first hole with the added incentive of a BMW 320 Sport Coupe on offer from Halliwell Jones for a hole in one. The hole was never really threatened, come to think of it neither was the green!

The unexpected sunshine and high temperatures in October ensured that the waiting refreshments from Sharon and Jenny on the 11th tee were a welcome sight.

All participants gathered on the clubhouse terrace after their round for a few pints in the evening sunshine and a chance to reflect on the days events, most agreeing that the 11th tee was by far the best moment in the round!

The golf course was well received and despite being difficult at times was appreciated for it's quality and condition.

Further guests arrived for the evening meal and entertainment, and following the excellent food the prizes were presented by our guest speaker Dave Watson.

In first place with an excellent score of 34 points was Jason Rudd (Allen Build) playing of 16, followed in second by eight handicapper Tony King (Carillion) with 33 points. In third place Michael Richardson (A&B) playing off scratch posted 32 points. The prize winners suggested that the tough golf course required experienced golfers to score well.

Other prize winners were Derek Barson (Halcrow Yolles) nearest the pin, Mark Hollywood (Crudens) nearest the pin, Ian Cooper (A&B) longest drive and Michael Hart (A&B) best back nine.

Following the presentation all guests were entertained by ex Everton captain Dave Watson and top Liverpool comedian Denny Waters.

A&B received many notes of thanks after the event and look forward to welcoming their guests next year.
