Introduction:
The Buddleia project otherwise know as ‘The Novas Contemporary Urban Centre' has been developed over a period of seven years, in partnership with local community groups and the City. The venue covers 170,000 sq feet within a Grade II listed converted warehouse in a prominent location close to the city centre, Toxteth and China Town. The building was a disused warehouse from the 1800/1900s which has been transformed into the Contemporary Urban Centre for the local community, it houses galleries, office space, a music venue, a cinema and bars.
Mechanical:
The mechanical installation consists of a full LPHW system to all the communal areas as well as supply and extract ventilation systems to dedicated areas. All the systems are controlled via a full BMS controls system, and a fully air conditioned server room. A full public health drainage system including all the sanitary ware, toilet extract and rainwater systems was installed. Dry risers have been installed on the main fire escape stair cases.
Electrical:
For this highly complex project, alongside our mechanical division the electrical services division were appointed to embark upon the task of installing a vast number of services including that of lighting and power as well as specialist security systems, CCTV installation, fire alarm system and a fully operational PA system. The success of this project was primarily down to the affinity between A+B Engineering, the on-site main contractor Mansells, and locally based architect and consultant.
