Introduction:

The Met Quarter is Liverpool's newest shopping centre housing 46 units with brands such as Armani, Timberland and Hugo Boss.

Milligans together with Edmund Kirby architects identified the opportunity to develop and re-generate one of Liverpool's finest and oldest buildings - The Post Office on Whitechapel. The completed project is an outstanding combination of old and new that provides one of the most stylish shopping experiences in the North West of England.

A&B Engineering are proud to have been involved in the development of The Met Quarter.

Mechanical:

Services include a boosted mains cold water distribution throughout the building to all shop units and management facilities. Drainage and surface water pipework installed throughout in Ensign cast iron. Sprinkler installation throughout all four floors including coverage to all landlord areas and a zone valve arrangement to each unit for connection by tenant. Sprinkler flow switches and zone valves are fully integrated into the central Protec fire alarm system. Smoke ventilation to the central shopping mall is via fully automatic roof mounted vents and central smoke curtain. Smoke ventilation also has fire alarm interface.

A full services package to the management suite and public amenities on the fourth floor includes Heating, Domestic Services, Ventilation and Air Conditioning. A gas pipework installation at roof level complete with metered gas supply to each tenant plant area offers each tenant an option to install energy efficient gas fired condensing units for air conditioning purposes.

Electrical:

Starting with two number 11Kv transformers fed from the Supply Authority HV ring a full and comprehensive electrical infrastructure was installed, including both 600 and 800amp TP&N overhead Bus-Bar feeders for the independent Retail Outlets sub distribution network.

General and emergency lighting was provided throughout the back of house areas with a bespoke design created by Equation Lighting including down lighting, LED lighting, Neon and fluorescent fittings was installed to the front of house and external area of the Mall to provide the creative image desired by the Client. A full control system was incorporated supplied by Dynalite to give variable scene settings at the touch of a button.

State of the art fire and security systems where also installed thorough the Mall with voice alarm, refuge alarms and public address facility within the landlords areas and the capability to expand the system as and when additional retailers took residence.

Dedicated door access and intercom services together with CCTV network and a telecom and data infrastructure was installed and monitored via the purpose built control room within the Management Suite
